Verdant · last updated 27 August 2026

Verdant does not collect your data. There is no account, no server and no analytics service. Everything the app does happens on your iPhone.

The camera never takes a picture

Verdant uses the camera as a light meter, and only as a light meter. While the meter is running the app opens a camera session with no photo or video output attached to it. There is nothing for a frame to be delivered to, so no image is ever produced, held in memory, written to disk or transmitted.

The only values Verdant reads back are the two numbers the camera settles on as it adjusts to the brightness in front of it — its ISO and its exposure time — which are converted to a lux figure by the same arithmetic a handheld light meter uses. That is also why Verdant asks for no access to your photo library: it has no photo to put there, and no reason to look at the ones you already have.

You can refuse the camera permission, or revoke it later in Settings, and Verdant still works. Describing a spot by hand produces a reading, and everything after the reading behaves identically.

What is stored on your device

Verdant saves the following locally, using Apple's on-device database and the standard iOS settings store:

This data never leaves your device, and it is not backed up to any server run by us. If your iPhone is included in an iCloud or encrypted local backup, it may be included in that backup, under Apple's control and covered by Apple's privacy policy. Deleting the app deletes all of it, permanently. There is no copy anywhere else.

Permissions

The camera is the only permission Verdant ever requests, and it is optional. Verdant does not ask for your contacts, your location, your microphone, your photos, your calendar, Health, notifications or tracking.

Subscriptions

Verdant Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We never see your payment details, your name or your Apple Account. Apple tells the app one thing only: whether a valid subscription is currently active. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Tracking and advertising

Verdant contains no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no tracking pixels and no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind. The App Tracking Transparency prompt is never shown, because there is nothing to ask you about.

Children

Verdant is rated 4+. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects none from children either. There is no messaging, no content shared with anyone, and no way for one person using the app to contact another.

Your rights

Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to return or erase. The data described above sits on your own device and is entirely under your control — you can view it in the app, edit it, and delete it by deleting the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted at this address and the date at the top changes. If a future version of Verdant ever collects anything, that change is described here before it ships, and in the app's release notes.
